Horlicks Doggie Cookies

My girls are on Easter break so, we did this together. We had so much fun doing these. See the shaping of the doggies, different shapes and sizes (fat ones, thin ones, flat ones) ... so cute!

Recipe was shared by Rusti in KC. The recipe is quite unique in that it doesn't use any sugar and egg. The fragrance and sweetness comes from the use of Horlicks but it wasn't sweet enough so, I added a wee bit of sugar. The original recipe uses chocolate chips as filling but I use Maltesers.

I used Koko Krunch for the ears.

Recipe is here : Horlicks Doggie Cookies
** This link is no longer available so I have posted the recipe that Rusti shared in KC.

This recipe was featured in the Sunday Times and is a creation of Ms Irene Yip who is a trainer at the Chef's Secrets cooking school.

Ingredients:
180g butter (she recommended Golden Churn)
80g Horlicks
100g chocolate chips
200g top flour (I used SoftasSilk flour)
25g cornflour
25g milk powder
Koko Krunch

Method:
1) Sift the flour, cornflour and milk powder.
2) Cream the butter and Horlicks for 3 minutes at low speed. Do not overbeat.
3) Add the sifted flour and beat for about one minute to form a dough.
4) Divide dough into 10g each. Embed 3 chocolate chips into each piece of dough and roll into a ball.
5) Insert 2 pieces of Koko Krunch to form the ears and 1 chocolate chip as the nose.
6) Bake at 140 degC for about 25 minutes.
7) Cool before storing.

Note:
I added 15g sugar to the ingredients.

I enjoy reading your blog a lot..keep up with the good work. I finally had a chance to bake this doggy cookie over the weekend with my 3-yr old daughter. We had fun. They are delicous cookies and I have adjusted to add more horlicks and sugar. Did not find Koko Krunch in the grocery. I have used other type of cereal instead so the ears did not turn out as good, where do you find Koko Krunch??
Thanks

Hi Btan,
Thanks for dropping by. :D
Koko Krunch is available from the cereal section in our local supermarket.
Try searching more supermarkets or maybe some asian grocery stores.

I have to continue to keep on looking ... did not realize that you live in HK. May be when I am visiting home ie Malaysia next year I will have to remember get Koko Krunch which my husband would probably appreciate that. I have sent him to look for Kokok Krunch and he drove to 4-5 grocery stores here in US to look for it, he was so frustrated that he coulnd't find Koko Krunch instead he brought home all kinds of Koko cereals.
Thanks again

Hi I tried using the cake flour but it doesn't hold the shapes n they all collapsed...but the taste is good. What's wrong? What kind of cake flour? Please advise.Thanks.

Hi siew,
Can you get the top flour? If cake flour doesn't work for you, try using plain flour. :D

I'm living in australia n I can't find any top flour. Yep ..2day I tried using plain flour to bake again so as not to disppoint my 3 yrs old son. Cos' he was crying after seeing his doggie biskit flatten in the oven. The plain flour does hold the shapes but it just taste floury. I think I need more practice in baking biskis...:) Thanks. Cheers!

Dear Florence,
Thanks for sharing the horlicks doggie cookies recipe. I try it and it was delicious and my kids love it. I made some adjustment though, I use unsalted butter and we do not have top flour here in Malaysia, so I use Key flour, which is just plain flour. Thanks again.
