Layered Fook Nian Gao

In case, you all have been wondering what I was up to these few days.

I have been busy making nian gaos. Lots of them, Fish NGs, Fook NGs, Traditional NGs, Golden Ingot NGs and today's Layered Fook Nian Gao.

This Layered Fook Nian Gao is the product of the left over batter from Fish NG and Fook NG that I made today. I had left-over of the orange batter and white batter from the Fish NG and brown batter from my Fook NG. The left-over itself is not enough to make a complete NG, so I use them wisely and make this really pretty Layered Fook NG.

First, I use the orange batter to fill up the hollow of the Fook character, steam it for 5 minutes.
Then I scoop a few ladles of the white batter on top of the Fook character and steam it for 13 minutes.
Next, I pour in all the brown batter and steam it for 13 minutes.
Lastly, I pour all the rest of the white batter and steam it for 20 minutes.

Da ... da ... da ... dum ... the very pretty Layered Fook Nian Gao.

You see, you can play around with the different batter and achieve different and pretty nian gaos. Happy fiddling around!

Hi, I just love your blog. I wanted to make the nian gao and was just wondering what kind of molds you use. Are they plastic, ceramic or metal? Thanks a bunch :)

Hi silverrock,
The mould is made of plastic.
I've posted a photo of it in the Fook Nian Gao, go take a look.

Dear Florence,
Sorry to bother you again. May I have the address of Sweetie Bakery? Because I am in the US and a family member will be visiting HK-hopefully soon-and so I am making up a list of items I want.
Thanks again,
Vicky
