Hello Kitty Jelly Candies

Cutie jelly candies!
Who would bear to eat these wobbly little cuties?
The kids would! They eat by the plateful.
These jelly candies are moulded by the Hello Kitty Jelly mould - see photo below. The kids love these and they are always the best-seller at birthday parties or BBQs.

I hope I can do so this weekend.

Florence,

Can you tell me how much does the mould cost?

Hi Doreen,
Thank you!

Hi,
Jelly crystals are those packet jelly powder.
Yes, the mould is a 2-part mould.
Just pour the jelly mixture into the mould and cover it with the lid and chill till set.

Hi chih,
I'm not sure if you can find them in KL or SG.
Pose the question at KC or Jo's Deli and see if anyone can help!

Hi Yaha,
You should do it soon! The last party we had, I made 20 HK moulds worth of jelly candies and they were all sold out. Takes me 2 days to make them as I had only 8 HK moulds (6 moulds were borrowed from my baking buddies).

Hi Sherreen,
The mould costs HK$45.00, but when they are on special they cost about HK$36.90.

Florence,

I made the HK jellies today. I used Konnyaku Jelly - 15g of powder to 900ml of water. I measured the amount of water to go into the moulds so that I can reduce wastage. I think about 200ml of water would be just about right with some "spill".

hi florence, i'm just a passerby who've been trying your recipes and i love your site. however, i tried the easy chilled lemon cheesecake following yr recipe today and i would like to ask if there's any error in the gelatin part. coz i compared that with your no-bake oreo cheesecake...the gelatin in the oreo cheesecake is dissolved using the double boil method, whereas the one at the lemon cheesecake only calls for 'dissolve 1 tbsp gelatin with 3 tbsp of water'. but the thing is, it cannot dissolve at all. end up, there are alot of lumps. is it suppose 2b that way or hv you missed out something? i'm sure the gelatin shd be boiled using at least hot water or something. but pardon me i don't see that on your lemon cheesecake recipe.

would appreciate the enlightenment. thx.

oh yes, 100ml of syrup from the canned peach, izit abit too much? i'm referring to the easy chilled lemon cheesecake. i added that, and now the cake cannot harden, even after a few hours in the fridge. it became so diluted. and the fact that the gelatin were lumpy made things worse. i'm suprised your cake turned out well following the recipe. i'm so disappointed!

Hi evan,
I'm sorry your easy chilled lemon cheesecake did not set! :(
The gelatin part is correct, you should dissolve 1 tbsp gelatin in 3 tbsp boiling hot water. You must make sure the gelatin is all dissolved before using it. If your gelatin does not dissolve then you have to use the double-boil method to dissolve it.
The 100ml syrup from the canned peach is also correct.
From what you have written, my guess is the the lumps should be the undissolved gelatin pieces therefore your cake will not set as there is not enough gelatin.
I hope you can try this again and let me know how it turn out as this cake is very refreshing and nice. Lots of friends love this cake! :)
Hiya, I went back to check the recipe, it seemed that I did not say that it was boiling hot water, my apologies!

hi florence, i understand...but i hope in future, you will check yr recipe b4 you post? not trying to mean anything but due to the gelatin error on your recipe, it was a rather costly mistake made on my part. alot of time wasted plus wasted ingredients. for amateurs like us, we don't hv "common sense" as in, we won't know gelatin is supposed 2b dissolved in boiling water. of coz for the pros like u, its understood. but anyway i must still say i love your site...been bookmarking alot of your other recipes and will try them out soon! hope they turn out well for me.

by the way i need to ask you something. i wasnt able to get 18cm springform tins...i hv 22cm & 24cm. so how do i adjust the ingredients accordingly? and after i add in gelatin & whipped cream, do i just blend gently or do i hv to continue beating using the electric egg beaters? thx. by the way, i hv a blog too, do check it out soon. thx florence!

Hi evan,
For 22cm pan, I think you have to double the amount for all ingredients.

At 23 February, 2006 22:26, Anonymous evan said...

hi florence, why double the amt? i'm afraid it'll be too much. actually i did a little maths. take an example, suppose 250g cream cheese is used for the 18cm , so 22cm = 250/18 x 22 = 305g of cream cheese. is it not suppose 2b this way? if double the amt, it'll be 500g, wouldnt it be too much? sorry to trouble u, juz need this clarification thats all =)

Hi evan,
The calculation is not done this way!
For round cake pan:
15cm x 5cm = 4 cups
18cm x 5cm = 5 cups
20cm x 5cm = 6 cups
22cm x 5cm = 8 cups
Maybe you can try 1.5x the ingredients but might have to compromise on the height of the cake.
For my other cheesecakes, which I use 20cm cake pan, I used 500g cheese too!

Hi Florence,

I bought this mould in Taipei recently and finally found time to try it out. But I still encounter problems getting the mould filled. What I did was fill half the mould and then cover the other half of the mould on it. Then I used a syringe to fill in the empty half of the mold. It turned out rather messy... esp for the part of the mould where it's only the head of the hello kitty.. the jelly can't get filled in at all... how exactly to go abt making it perfect like yours?

TIA!

Hi baking fiend,
Just pour 200ml jelly mixture into the part of the mould with holes and secure it with the other part. Some jelly mixture will ooze out but that's OK, just clean it up and chill in the refridge till set.

Hi Florence,

I finally got the hello kitty mould from my internet order. However, the 3D shape of the hello kitty don't turn out nicely. The back of the hello kitty tend not to be round. The seller told me to fill up one side of the mould (the one without the holes on it)with jelly mixture to the top edge, then cover the other mould (with the holes) over it and lock. Some water will ooze out and hence the shape is not full like yours. What did you do to correct this problem? Need your advice. Thanks.

Mindy,
Use a little less than 200ml of jelly solution and pour into the mould as instructed by your vendor.
You have to tilt the mould slightly to get it to fill up nicely.
Happy trying. :D

hello,

i tried making konnayaku jelly, but the powder does not dissolve easily in boiling water. Stirring did not help at all. What went wrong?

At 14 September, 2008 08:23, Blogger Florence said...

Hi,
You must mix sugar and konnyaku well, when water is about to boil, add in the konnyaku and stir till dissolved. Hope this helps. :)
